ALBAWABA - There were fierce skirmishes in Jenin on Friday between Palestinian security forces and members of the Islamic Jihad-affiliated "Jenin Battalion," as tensions escalated. As security operations continue and civic groups work to find a solution to the growing situation, there is bloodshed.

A damaged Palestinian military vehicle was taken away after being struck by explosive devices placed by terrorists, according to video footage that has gone viral online. More explosions were seen close to security vehicles, indicating that armed groups are still defying the authorities.

The Jenin refugee camp has been surrounded by security forces, who are requesting that extremists surrender and stop attacking the Israeli soldiers. Three people have already been killed in the conflict, and several others—including militants, civilians, and security forces—have been injured. The suffering for the camp's occupants has been made worse by regular power disruptions.

The Palestinian Authority intensified its security measures on December 15 by initiating the second stage of "Homeland Protection." Targeting those deemed criminals by the authorities, disarming them, and reestablishing order in the camp are the objectives of the mission. Armed organizations, especially the "Jenin Battalion," have fiercely opposed the operation, accusing the authorities of targeting resistance members and trying to undermine their capabilities.

On Thursday, local civic and rights groups announced "Concord," a reconciliation movement, amid the growing violence. De-escalating tensions and finding a peaceful solution to the present issue in Jenin and its refugee camp are the goals of the effort.

As both parties continue to disagree about the goals of the security operations and the future of the hotly disputed territory, the recurring conflicts serve as a stark reminder of the profound differences that exist inside the region.
