ALBAWABA - The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) released a statement on X, denouncing the dangerous escalation in events over the past few days across Lebanon.
"This conflict has already claimed too many lives and caused significant damage to houses and public infrastructure," the statement reads. The statement comes at a time when Israel intensified its attacks on southern and eastern towns in Lebanon.
At least two people were killed in the strikes on Bouday in Baalbek on Monday. An Israeli airstrike later targeted the al-Jarmaq area in Iqlim al-Tuffah, deep in south Lebanon.
"It has jeopardized the livelihoods and changed the lives of tens of thousands of civilians on both sides of the Blue Line. Yet we now see an expansion and intensification of strikes," the UNIFIL statement continued.
Since Israel launched its latest brutal war on Gaza, Hezbollah, and Israel have been exchanging strikes on vital targets for both parties. According to AFP numbers, at least 278 people have been killed on the Lebanese side since the fighting began, the majority of whom are Hezbollah members, with 44 being civilians.
The UNIFIL urged all parties to resort to diplomatic solutions and halt all hostilities to prevent further deterioration in the security situation in southern Lebanon. "We urge all parties involved to halt hostilities to prevent further escalation and leave space for a political and diplomatic solution that can bring back stability and ensure the safety of the people in this region".
Al-Aqsa Flood operation against Israel
Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.
Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip and captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.
In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
The latest statistics by the Ministry of Health in Gaza revealed that the death toll from Israeli brutal pounding on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has soared to 29,782 people, with more than 70,043 injuries.
Since then, approximately 85% of Gazans have been displaced, all of whom are suffering from severe food insecurity, and the healthcare system has collapsed. Hundreds of thousands of people lack shelter, and aid trucks are entering the area at a lower rate than before the conflict began.
