ALBAWABA- A deadly traffic accident early Wednesday morning on the mountainous Al-Araqoub road in Yemen’s Abyan province left thirty four people dead and ten others injured after a collision between a passenger bus and a private car ignited a massive fire.
According to local authorities, the bus, operated by the Saqr Al-Hijaz company and carrying passengers returning from Saudi Arabia, collided with a Foxy car in the Al-Araqoub area before both vehicles burst into flames.
Dr. Mohammed al-Qadri, director of the Public Health and Population Office in Abyan, confirmed the casualties, noting that several of the victims were women.
The injured were initially taken to hospitals in Abyan for first aid before being transferred to the temporary capital, Aden, for further treatment.
Medical sources at Al-Jumhuriya Hospital in Aden told Al-Masdar Online that five of the injured passengers were admitted for treatment following the accident.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, which occurred along one of Abyan’s most hazardous mountain roads.
