Turkey will take up the command of the Afghan International Security and Assistance Force (ISAF) from the British next spring, the daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung quoted unidentified sources in Berlin, Paris, London and Ankara as saying.
The Turkish government has been informally requested to take charge of the ISAF troops, according to the reportrs, cited by the Iranian official news agency (IRNA).
German sources said Turkey had the material and political qualifications to assume such a role. Germany, an initial front runner for the post, made clear last week that it lacked technical capabilities for such a mission. (Albawaba.com)
