ALBAWABA - Ukrainian soldiers have stopped using US-made GPS-guided weaponry and ammunition due to Russian electronic warfare techniques. The Washington Post reported this development based on top Ukrainian military officials and classified documents.
Russia's sophisticated electronic warfare and jamming equipment have greatly affected the accuracy of American GPS-guided weapons in Ukraine, according to the assessment. Ukrainian troops have discontinued their usage and requested more durable weaponry.
Russian signal jamming has reduced the hit rates of Excalibur artillery rounds, HiMARS rockets, and JDAM rockets. Ukrainian military data show that Excalibur shell impact rates had dropped from over 50% to below 10%, causing the Pentagon to discontinue delivering this ammunition six months ago. HIMARS and JDAM missiles have also lost efficacy.
Ukrainian military authorities supplied extensive briefings to the US from autumn 2023 to April 2024 in response to these difficulties. These assessments stress the ineffectiveness of present munitions and urge new, technologically superior guided weapons that can survive Russian electronic warfare.
The paper also reveals that Russia and China have been collaborating on electronic warfare technology, particularly signal improvements. This collaboration may have helped Russia sabotage GPS-guided equipment.
Amid these events, the US Congress authorized a $61 billion defense aid package for Ukraine. After receiving clearance, the Pentagon sent fresh military supplies to Kyiv to help Ukraine combat Russian electronic warfare.
Russian electronic warfare disrupting US-made weaponry shows how the Ukraine conflict is growing and the necessity for military technological developments to resist such threats.
