ALBAWABA - Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store expressed readiness to recognize the state of Palestine and its position in the United Nations (UN), according to a written statement from the Norwegian government's official website.
Speaking at a joint press conference following his meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Store stated that they had discussed the Middle East and Gaza issues. "Norway is ready to recognize the state of Palestine and its place in the UN. The main issue is when and under what circumstances we will do this to support peace in the region," he said.
Store emphasized that Spain and Norway share "similar ideas" regarding the recognition of the state of Palestine and that they will closely coordinate on this matter.
He noted that they work with countries that share similar ideas, such as Spain, in the region and will actively engage with this issue in the coming weeks.
Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez embarked on a two-day official visit to Poland, Norway, and Ireland with the intention of seeking support from other European Union (EU) countries for recognizing the state of Palestine.
Sanchez had previously stated in a speech in Parliament this week, "Spain is ready to recognize the state of Palestine."
The Spanish government, which is engaged in intensive diplomacy for an international peace conference based on a two-state solution to the Middle East issue, promises to recognize the state of Palestine before the summer.
