ALBAWABA - Following careful intelligence work, Morocco's Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) said that an impending terror plan involving several explosions had been successfully thwarted. The scheme, which was associated with ISIS, was nearing completion.
Coordinated operations in Had Soualem, Berrechid province, resulted in the arrest of four people, including three brothers with connections to ISIS. Special forces from the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) worked with the Royal Gendarmerie to capture the suspects, who were between the ages of 26 and 35. Two sites in the Al-Omran and Al-Amal areas were the focus of the raids.
A Royal Gendarmerie helicopter carrying precision marksmen, bomb detection specialists, and canine teams trained to discover explosives were also participating in the operations.
A variety of things, including firearms, chemicals, sulfur, powdered coal, fertilizers, electrical wire, welding equipment, and adhesive tapes, were confiscated by authorities on suspicion of being used in the production of explosives. Experts in science are doing forensic examination on these items.
According to investigations, the suspects had vowed to support ISIS in a video and intended to carry out bombings before heading to Sahelian ISIS camps. In addition to conducting reconnaissance of possible targets and recording them with photographs and videos, surveillance verified that they had bought chemical components from many stores.
As part of a continuing investigation overseen by Morocco's Public Prosecution Office for terrorist charges, the suspects are still being held in judicial custody. Authorities want to find other people involved in the scheme and find connections to local and foreign terrorist groups.
