ALBAWABA- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has come to the defense of tech billionaire Elon Musk, dismissing allegations against him as baseless.
"Elon is a great friend of Israel," Netanyahu stated, emphasizing Musk’s visit to Israel following the October 7 Hamas attack, which he called "the worst atrocity against the Jewish people since the Holocaust."
Netanyahu highlighted Musk’s strong support for Israel’s right to defend itself against threats from Hamas and hostile regimes. His comments come amid a wave of criticism directed at Musk, including accusations of supporting far-right ideologies in Europe.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz recently condemned Musk at the World Economic Forum for what he described as endorsements of "extreme-right positions." Scholz reaffirmed the importance of free speech but called far-right narratives "unacceptable."
The criticism intensified after Musk made a controversial hand gesture during Donald Trump’s inauguration celebration in 2017, which some likened to a Nazi salute.
Musk denied the comparison, calling it a misrepresentation and mocking those perpetuating the claim, stating, “The 'everyone is Hitler' attack is tired.”
Musk also drew backlash earlier this month for endorsing the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party ahead of Germany’s February general elections.
German authorities accused Musk of attempting to influence the country’s political landscape through his public support for the AfD.
