Chinese President Jiang Zemin said on Tuesday that the current visit to China by King Mohammed VI of Morocco is a new milestone in the development of bilateral relations between the countries.
King Mohammed VI is the first King of Morocco to visit China since the two nations established diplomatic relations 44 years ago, according to China’s People’s Daily.
During his talks with Morocco’s Monarch in Beijing on Tuesday, Jiang said he and the King met to set the direction of bilateral relations in the 21st century.
The Chinese King suggested that the two countries focus their efforts to promote ties in three areas; building a long and stable relationship, pushing forward cooperation for mutual benefits, and strengthening coordination and negotiation so as to ensure the interests of developing countries and world peace.
Jiang said China would continue to increase trade and economic cooperation with Morocco.
For his part, King Mohammed VI said the two countries share a common stand on many international issues and have supported each other in various international matters.
He expressed his hope that since the peace process in the Middle East has reached a stalemate, China should play an active role in helping the two parties break the deadlock, reach a solution as soon as possible and renew peace negotiations.
Jiang emphasized that the key to the Middle East issue is the rational resolution of the issue of Palestine. He said China has always supported the efforts of the Arab countries to recover their lost land so that the Palestinians can have their legitimate national rights.
Jiang said China is ready to maintain regular contact and negotiations with Morocco and other Arab countries in a bid to play an active role in pushing for an early resolution of the Middle East situation.
Following the discussions, President Jiang and King Mohammed VI attended a ceremony for the signing of four agreements, including the agreement on economic and technological cooperation between the governments of the two countries as well as one exchange of letters. (Albawaba.com)
