Kurdish forces have been able to halt the advance of Islamic State militants in Syria's Kobani, the Associated Press reports.
Kurds have been battling IS extremists for control of Kobani, a strategic border town, for weeks and have been aided by air strikes from a U.S.-led coalition. At least two air strikes were carried out Sunday, destroying an Islamic State fighting position and staging area, according to AP.
The Islamic State carved out a large stretch of territory in Iraq and Syria in June after a swift advance. The terrorist group claims to have established an Islamic caliphate and has committed numerous atrocities, including massacres and multiple beheadings.
