Islamic State militants have beheaded nine Kurdish fighters, including three women, according to AP. The Kurdish fighters were reportedly captured during clashes near the Syrian-Turkish border while battling for control of Kobani.
IS militants launched an assault on Kobani in mid-September in an effort to seize the strategic border town, AP reports. The assault has caused thousands of Kurds to flee into neighboring Turkey.
The U.S. and its Arab allies have carried out air strikes around Kobani to assist the Kurds in their fight against IS.
