Head of Italy’s Olive Opposition Coalition Francesco Rutelli called on the international community Sunday to move quickly and find a solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

In a radio interview, cited by agencies, Rutelli said he believed that "there is no way direct negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians result in a solution for the Middle East crisis."

Head of the center-left alliance, which ruled Italy for the past seven years before premier Silvio Berlusconi came to power, said that if the Palestinians and the Israelis were left alone in search for peace, they would only find more hatred and violence.

Rutelli, who said he respected democracy in Israel, added he was surprised of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's statement in which he regretted of not killing Palestinian President Yasser Arafat in Lebanon 20 years ago.(Albawaba.com)
