ALBAWABA - According to the Associated Press, Israeli soldiers have begun building along the southern Syrian demilitarized zone, and new satellite imagery indicates that construction is underway on the so-called "Alpha Line."
The Israeli-occupied Golan Heights are separated from Syrian territory by this line. Paving an asphalt road along the border seems to be part of the construction.
The ceasefire restrictions regulating this sensitive location were broken when Israeli soldiers entered the demilitarized zone during construction, according to confirmation from the UN. Officials from Israel and Syria have not yet responded to the news.
The AP's analysis of the satellite photos indicates that building started in earnest in late September. Israeli initiatives to construct additional roads and what seems to be a buffer zone around the Gaza border have come after this.
The Israeli army has also begun breaking up communities in Lebanon, where UN forces from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have allegedly been shot at many times.
Since 1974, the UN's Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) has monitored the demilitarized Alpha Line, which has not yet seen any notable violent occurrences.
Both Syrian authorities and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) declined to comment on the issue when AP reached out to them.
