ALBAWABA - Iran has alerted the UN of its right to retaliate to recent Israeli assaults, while U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has warned against retaliation.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry said Sunday that Tehran "reserves the right to respond to Israel's criminal aggression." Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged the UN Secretary-General for an immediate Security Council meeting.

The Security Council will discuss Iran's plea to condemn Israeli assaults tomorrow.

Israel's military reported an early Saturday raid against Iranian military installations. Iranian authorities said they intercepted "attempts by the Zionist entity to target points within Tehran and the country," killing four troops.

Iran said it had warnings regarding the Israeli strike. Araghchi said "We received indications on Friday afternoon that the Zionist entity might launch an attack on Iran." said, "We exchanged messages with several entities and maintained constant coordination with our armed forces."

In response, U.S. Defense Secretary Austin said on Platform X, "Iran should not make the mistake of responding to Israeli strikes, which should mark the end of this exchange."

Austin reiterated the U.S. commitment to Israel's security and the protection of U.S. soldiers, assets, and friends in the area, suggesting a diplomatic solution to regional concerns.

In Austin, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant discussed the "success" of Israeli operations on Iran and the "strategic opportunities" they may provide. Gallant reported first attacks on missile development locations, surface-to-air missile systems, and Iranian aerial capabilities.
