ALBAWABA - Todd Blanche, U.S. President Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general, has rescinded Trump’s $1.8 billion ‘anti-weaponization’ fund after Republicans threatened Blanche with blocking his nomination over the controversial fund.
The controversial fund for Trump and his allies came about as a lawsuit settlement between Trump and the IRS, the fund would have given taxpayer money to people who said they were ‘victims’ of financial weaponization by the IRS, specifically for those involved with the January 6 Capitol riot.
Blanche has stated that the fund was “dead” and the Justice Department confirmed the program was abandoned, with Blanche stating on X:
“My team and I have met with committee members and Senators over the past several weeks and addressed any concerns or outstanding questions,
“We have enjoyed good faith discussions, and as a result issue the following order and update with regard to the May IRS settlement.
“The Attorney General’s May 18, 2026 Order establishing the Anti-Weaponization Fund is rescinded and shall have nor force or effect.”
Blanche, who’s currently serving as acting chief of the Justice Department has effectively killed the fund with this order, along with a previous addendum to the settlement agreement which bars the IRS from investigating Trump and his family for past tax issues.
Trump said the fund “would be a reimbursement for the pain” his supporters and allies who would be eligible for the fund “suffered.”
