Hizbullah guerrillas attacked Israeli troops occupying the foothills of the Golan Heights Sunday, witnesses and party officials said.
Strikes on Israeli outposts in Shebaa Farms have taken place on almost a daily basis since Hizbullah vowed to respond to the Israeli offensive in the West Bank.
Reuters said Hizbullah fighters fired what appeared to be mortar rounds and anti-tank missiles at the Israeli positions.
Fire was seen rising from at least one Israeli position. Two Israeli soldiers were injured, one very seriously and the second lightly.
A short time later, two Israeli soldiers were injured, one lightly and one moderately, when mortar shells were fired at the Jewish settlement of Avivim, located on the Israeli-Lebanese border.
The Israeli troops replied with artillary shells, leading to a heavy exchange of fire.
A Hizbullah statement issued in Beirut said the group's fighters targeted six Israeli military outposts in "fierce confrontations" in the Shebaa Farms area. It said the guerrillas "scored direct hits."
Four Palestinians were detained by the Lebanese army for firing on an Israeli position in the village of Ghajar on Saturday, Lebanese security officials said Sunday.
