Gulf Air will be the gold sponsor for the Bahrain International Garden Show (BIGS), to be held from 5 to 8 April 2006 at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre, under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain.

Launched two years ago as Bahrain Garden Fair, the show proved to be an instant hit with visitors, which encouraged the organisers to change the name to Bahrain International Garden Show (BIGS) this year, expanding it beyond the regional scope.

"The event has now become a major attraction not only for the residents of Bahrain but also for people from the GCC countries, who will  be attracted by the wide range and variety of new gardening and landscaping ideas the show offers," says Gulf Air Vice President Danny Barranger.

"Gulf Air has always been supporting events that promote Bahrain as an important trade and tourist destination. We believe we can play an important role in facilitating both trade and tourism with our wide network of services from Bahrain."

"Besides, we strongly believe that this eco-friendly event will go along way in promoting environmental awareness and appreciation among people. Gulf Air, together with the organizers, will extend its fullest support to further encourage this enthusiasm."

The show this year will be centered on the theme, “Trees of Bahrain,” with the objective to focus on native trees and preserving them. Activities in this year's show include a new competition on trees in which three categories of trees - the oldest tree, highest tree and experimental tree – will be selected for awards. In addition, the regular annual features such as scientific competition, furniture competition and Her Highness Shaikha Sabika Bint Ibrahim Pottery competition will also be held.
