ALBAWABA – German authorities have identified the suspect behind the deadly Christmas market attack in Magdeburg as a 50-year-old doctor, who describes himself as a former Muslim and outspoken critic of Islam.

According to the German News Agency, the suspect has lived in Germany since 2006 and publicly labels himself as a "former Muslim." His online presence includes posts accusing German authorities of failing to adequately address Islamism.

In recent years, he voiced support for Saudi women fleeing their homeland but later advised against seeking asylum in Germany. In a statement published on his website in both Arabic and English, he wrote, “My advice: Do not seek asylum in Germany.”

The attack which occurred at a crowded Christmas market on Friday, involved a car ramming incident that claimed four lives and left 205 people injured.

The suspect had previously made statements on social media and during interviews, criticizing German authorities. Some of his accusations were described as incoherent, but they consistently highlighted his opposition to Islamism and his dissatisfaction with German policies.

The investigation continues as authorities work to understand the motivations behind the attack and assess the broader implications of the suspect's actions and statements.
