ALBAWABA - Al Jazeera cameraman Ahmad Al-Louh was murdered Sunday in an Israeli airstrike that struck a civil defense facility in the central Gazan refugee camp of Al-Nuseirat.
Five civil defense personnel were also killed in the hit, according to Ashraf Abu Amra, an Al Jazeera correspondent reporting from Deir al-Balah. The attack happened within the camp, close to the market area.
Ahmad Al-Louh died during the attack on a civil defense position in the camp, according to a statement from Al-Awda Hospital.
The Gaza Government Media Office called on the international community to act to prevent the murder and death of Palestinian media workers and denounced the continued targeting of journalists. The office emphasized that with Al-Louh's passing, there have now been 195 journalists killed since the conflict started.
The employees of Al Jazeera have been the victim of attacks before. Journalist Hamza Al-Dahdouh, son of Al Jazeera correspondent Wael Al-Dahdouh, was murdered in an Israeli airstrike west of Khan Younis earlier this year in January. Similarly, cinematographer Samer Abu Daqah was killed in an Israeli strike in Khan Younis in December of last year. In February, an airstrike near Rafah injured cameraman Ahmad Mattar and reporter Ismail Abu Omar.
There have been repeated calls to stop violence against journalists in crisis areas, as well as widespread condemnation and calls for accountability in response to the rise in targeted attacks against media people.
