At least eleven people were killed when a car bomb exploded in a market in the town of Mahmoudiya, south of Baghdad. According to Iraqi security sources, at least 23 people were wounded in the attack, which occurred nearby a local mosque, according to Reuters.
In the city of Mosul, seven workers were killed, apparently because they were employed by Iraq's police department.
Five other Iraqis were killed on Sunday in the town of Baquba when gunmen opened fire on the bus they were traveling in. The victims were all civilians.
In the town of Riyadhi southwest of Baghdad, two Iraqis were killed and two wounded when gunmen opened fire on them.
Earlier in the day, a bomb killed a British soldier and injured three others in southern Iraq on Saturday, the Defence Ministry said on Sunday. The incident occurred just north of the southern Iraqi city Basra.
Four Iraqis died and seven injured when a car bomb went off near a mosque in eastern Baghdad, police said. Elsewhere, five resistance fighters died and five others arrested when U.S. forces raided a house in Yusifiya, south of Baghdad, the U.S. military said.
US military sources revealed that on Saturday, three U.S. marines were killed in the western Anbar province of Baghdad.
On the political front, Shiite figures floated a proposal to end the standoff over a new government by having Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari step down - but only if his replacement comes from his own party.
According to the AP, negotiations have stalled over the refusal of Sunni and Kurdish parties to accept al-Jaafari.
