At least 20 people were killed and ten others wounded on Monday when Yemenite soldiers clashed with Shiite followers of the anti-US cleric Hussein Al Houth.
Five Yemenite soldiers were killed in the clashes, which occurred in the northern Yemenite province of Saada, according to Reuters.
Houthi's followers are attempting to establish clerical rule in the region.
The cleric was killed in 2004 after violence broke out in northern Yemen. Houthi's father, Sheikh Badr Al Deen, was blamed by Yemeni officials for renewed clashes that erupted in 2005.
The government, however, later granted all of the group's supporters held in Yemen's jail amnesty after Sheikh Badr Al Deen agreed to end fighting.
Yemen joined the US-led "war on terrorism" following the September 11 attacks.
Osama bin Laden is a Yemenite native. Houthi's followers, though are not related to Al Qaeda.
