Lebanese singer Maya Nasri has shocked the entertainment world with her announcement of releasing a doll that looks like her and holds her name. The singer revealed that she has personally financed the new project and it is her surprise for the year 2004.
According to the London based Elaph, Maya revealed that the idea began a year ago at a time when she wanted to do something new that reflects her personality and is within her financial capabilities. She had first introduced the doll to her family and producer Simon Asmar, who welcomed the idea and supported her the entire way. Maya then had one of her cousins, who is a designer, design the doll for her making sure that its is a mirror image of her actual outer appearance.
Maya stressed that she hopes the doll will find popularity and success, especially among children. She also hopes the doll will compete with the different toys currently in stores and becomes a useful entertaining object.
Nasri recently held a concert for the Anwar Al Mahaba Organization, which proceeds went to victims of AIDS. The singer has expressed her will to hold such a concerts in the hope that many victims of this disease will receive better treatment.
Nasri has for the past two years been suffering terribly with her previous production company, which had postponed her latest album for over a year. Maya had been treated badly by her company which refused to give justifications for postponing her album and not meeting most of the terms in her contract. Maya finally broke free from the company and she has finally begun to reveal the misery she was feeling with them publicly in most of the interviews she holds. It has also been revealed that the singer may shift to Rotana production company, which has since the summer been showing exceptional interest in her and her music. The singer is debating whether the shift to Rotana will make up for the misery she has felt in the past years, and is hopeful if she makes the decision to move she will be treated fairly and rightfully as she feels she deserves.
Nasri has strongly refused an offer by Egyptian actor Farouq Al Fishawi to star in a new film he has been preparing for. Farouq had offered Maya a leading role as a Lebanese singer in the film who is very successful but has no values for social ethics and her only concern is to cheat wealthy men out of their money in any means possible.
Maya stressed that no matter how much money she is offered for the role, she will not under any circumstance accept such a part that hurts the reputation of Lebanese. She added that she has too much respect for her profession and for all Lebanese woman and will not take part in anything that shows otherwise.
Maya noted that she holds great respect towards Farouq and is pleased he had nominated her to star in his film, but wished that the role was in favor of Lebanese singers showing how their music has broken through to the top of music charts and found acceptance worldwide, not against them. - Albawaba.com
