Sharjah Museums Department holds graduation ceremony for its employees who finished ICDL training program

Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) has recently held a graduation ceremony for 12 employees who successfully completed the International Computer Driving Licensing program (ICDL), at Sharjah Aquarium.

The ICDL training program was held by SMD in cooperation with Sharjah University with the aim of training and qualifying its working cadres in museums.

The 12 employees, who graduated from the ICDL program, are from the Financial Department, Sharjah Calligraphy Museum, Sharjah Aquarium, Sharjah Heritage Museum, Sharjah Classic Car Museum, Scientific Museum and Sharjah Art Museum.

Speaking on the program, Dr. Bassel Soudan, acting Director of the Continued Education and Professional Development Centre at Sharjah University, "The ICDL program has gained wide international recognition, as it covers the basic concepts and terms for the use of computer and its scientific applications in workplaces and community sectors. The program is divided into seven semesters and there is a final exam by the end of each semester. The ICDL certificate is given after trainees finish the eight semesters successfully. The program is available to everyone regardless of age, sex, academic achievement or scientific experience." 

He added that the ICDL training program aims to enhance IT and computer-use skills, and thus Sharjah University is keen to seek assistance from elite of highly qualified and experienced lecturers and ensure the availability of sophisticated laboratories approved by the ICDL Regional Office.

Dr.Bassel Soudan thanked SMD for choosing the Continued Education Centre at Sharjah University to train its employees and expressed his hope that cooperation with the Department would continue with.

Ms. Abrar B. Ali, Head of the Training Section at HR Department, Sharjah Museums Department, said the Department was keen to list the ICDL program on its strategic plan for 2012 to raise the importance of digital and computer literacy and enhance IT and computer-use skills. 

"The Department always strives to provide trainees with the necessary skills to optimally capitalize on the information technology and digital revolution to cope with the Age of Information and develop the computer-use skills of its staff so as to help increase their productivity," Abrar said. 

She said the program is in line with the directives of the rational government to develop the skills of employees in the field of information technology to better serve the society and provide the best services to museums' visitors.

Abrar highlighted the importance of the ICDL training program in equipping the department's staff with the necessary computer-use skills they need in the museum work, such as Microsoft Office applications, Data Preservation Program and Power Point program. 

It is noteworthy that the Training Section at SMD's HR Department had earlier held a training program on ICDL in collaboration with the Human Resources Department at Sharjah Government to enhance the efficiently of its staff. It also held several training programs on the sign language for museum guides, utilizing drama in museum work, a special course on enhancing the skills of museum guides and a training course on Etiquette rules in museums.
