ALBAWABA - The Indian military launched multiple airstrikes in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, Pakistan's military spokesperson, Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, announced. Intense shelling and loud blasts were heard near the border areas of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, Reuters said on Tuesday night.

The Indian army said it launched on Tuesday "Operation Sindoor" targeting "terrorist infrastructure" in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

The airstrikes came in response to the April 22 attack on Pahalgam town in India-administered Kashmir, which led to the killing of 26 men, most of them were Hindu.

India cut ties with Pakistan, and two weeks later, it launched an operation called "Operation Sindoor" against multiple sites where "terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed," the BBC said.

What does “Sindoor Operation” mean?

Home Minister in India Amit Shah shared a post on his official X account: "#OperationSindoor is Bharat’s response to the brutal killing of our innocent brothers in Pahalgam." "Bharat" is the Hindi name for India.

According to Reuters, Sindoor refers to the red vermilion powder used usually by married Hindu women. The “Sindoor Operation” refers to the Indian widows following the April 22 attack that resulted in the death of 26 men.
