ALBAWABA - The United States placed Iranian man Majid Dastjani Farahani on the wanted list, but who is he and why he is important and a great catch to Washington?

The FBI posted on its official website a photo of Majid Farahani and issued a warning against the Iranian person. It wrote: "If you have any information concerning this person, please contact your local FBI office or the nearest American Embassy or Consulate."

The FBI also added that the Iranian man has ties to or may visit Iran and Venezuela.

Who is Iranian Majid Farahani, wanted by the FBI?

Majid Farahani, 42, is an Iranian national born in 1982. The man is a member of Iran's intelligence.

He is wanted for questioning in connection with the recruitment of individuals for various operations in the US, including the lethal targeting of current and former American government officials.

According to the FBI, Majid Farahani is seeking to target US officials in revenge for the killing of IRGC-QF Commander Qasem Soleimani. 

Furthermore, the Iranian intelligence officer has likely recruited individuals for surveillance activities focused on religious sites, businesses, and other facilities in the US. "Farahani acted or purported to act for or on behalf of, directly or indirectly, Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security," the FBI added.

About Qasem Soleimani

Qasim Soleimani was the head of Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. He was killed in an airstrike that was carried out by the United States near Baghdad International Airport in Iraq on Jan. 3, 2020.

The US drone attack which targeted Soleimani's vehicle near Baghdad Airport also killed Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, vice president of Iraq's Hashd al-Shaabi group, or Popular Mobilization Units (PMU).

Following the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, Iran vowed several times to revenge for the killing of the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
