ALBAWABA - Al Jazeera has released footage capturing the moments following a shooting attack in Be’er Sheva, southern Israel, that left one Israeli soldier dead and 13 others injured, with some in critical condition.
The video shows panicked Israeli civilians, including armed members of the Border Guard, fleeing the scene near the central bus station in Be’er Sheva. The footage also captures the assailant firing shots before being neutralized and collapsing to the ground.
According to Israeli Army Radio, the attacker initially stabbed a police officer, seized her weapon, and then opened fire on others in the vicinity. Israeli broadcaster Kan reported that the slain individual was a Border Guard officer.
In a statement to Yedioth Ahronoth, the mother of the deceased officer said her daughter and other soldiers had sought refuge in a bathroom during the attack. She noted her inability to contact her daughter during the incident.
Earlier in the day, Israeli police confirmed that the attacker had been killed and that security forces were conducting searches throughout the city for potential accomplices.
Initial investigations identified the assailant as a resident of the Negev region who held Israeli citizenship.
Abu Ubaida, the spokesperson for Hamas' military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, hailed the attack as a “heroic operation,” stating, “We have full confidence that the youth inside the occupied territories are capable of inflicting pain on the occupier and supporting their brethren in Gaza by all means possible.”
