ALBAWABA - Scottie Scheffler, a golfer competing in the PGA Championship, was handcuffed and temporarily detained by police outside Valhalla Golf Club.

World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler had a strong turn of events at the PGA Championship when he was momentarily arrested by authorities outside Valhalla Golf Club. After an accident involving a pedestrian and a shuttle bus, Scheffler tried to enter the venue for his second round when the tragedy happened.

Scheffler was not engaged in the collision, but according to accounts from ESPN, he got into a confrontation with a police officer while trying to get around the traffic that the accident had produced. The situation quickly got out of hand, according to ESPN's Jeff Darlington, and Scheffler started asking around for help from reporters.

According to Darlington's account of what happened, Scheffler tried to enter the golf club from a side median and was told to stop by a policeman. Scheffler originally complied, but he kept driving, which resulted in the officer arresting him and handcuffing him.

Scheffler, the two-time Masters champion, is said to have been shouted at by the policeman, who then put him in handcuffs and brought him to the rear of the squad vehicle.

Witnesses described the "stressful scene" in which Scheffler was being taken into jail, according to a police officer. Scheffler was later allowed to resume his tournament preparations, though.

Scheffler is racing to meet his second-round tee time of 3:08 p.m. at Valhalla after being released.

The incedent outside the golf club, which had nothing to do with Scheffler, caused at least an hour's delay in the second round of the tournament. Police confirmed that a pedestrian had died after being struck by a shuttle bus.
