ALBAWABA - The Iranian government announced three days of mourning after the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on early Wednesday. 

Iran has joined many other countries including Qatar, Jordan, Russia and China and condemned the assassination of the Hamas leader.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei vowed to revenge for the killing of Haniyeh. He posted on X (formerly Twitter): "Following this bitter, tragic event which has taken place within the borders of the Islamic Republic, it is our duty to take revenge."

In another post, Khamenei said: "I offer my condolences to the Islamic Ummah, the Resistance Front, the courageous, proud people of Palestine, and in particular to the family and loved ones of Martyr Haniyeh and of one of his companions who was martyred beside him."

Red flag of revenge was raised in Iran after Haniyeh's death

A video was shared on social media showing an Iranian TV channel's broadcast from outside Jamkaran Mosque, which is one of the primary significant mosques in Jamkaran, a village in the outskirts of the city of Qom.

The TV channel had a black line on the side of the screen which is known to be placed when an important figure dies. Quran was played in the background and a small picture of Ismail Haniyeh was seen in the right corner of the screen.

In the clip, posted on X, a man was seen to raise the "red flag of revenge" on the top of the mosque. This comes as the Iranian supreme leader threatened to revenge the killing of the Hamas leader in Tehran.
