ALBAWABA - Social media platforms have widely buzzed the reports that a gold-embroidered wig belonging to Tuthmosis III's wife was found in Egypt in great condition after thousands of years.

A post was made declaring that a gold-embroidered wig had been found in good condition, belonging to one of Tuthmosis III's wives about over 3,000 years old.

Pictures were also shared online showing an embroidered wig adorned with golden rings claiming to be for the wife of the Egyptian Pharaoh and that it was discovered in the western bank of Luxor Governorate.

Rumors online also cited the person who first shared the photos: "This wig is about 3,450 years old, which means that it existed before the existence of more than 90% of the countries that now exist on this planet."

Does the gold-embroidered wig belong to Tuthmosis III's wife?

In detail, the professor at the Faculty of Archeology at the Egyptian Ain Shams University, Director General of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, Ali Abdel Halim, denied the allegations being spread online.

He explained: "The wig shown in the pictures is a modern design made to look like the old one," and not a wig dating back to ancient Egypt.

The professor added that the newly-made wig was created to look like an original wig that was found decaying in the tomb of Princess Sat-Hathor, who was likely the daughter of King Senusret II and the wife of Amenemhat III, the sixth pharaoh of the Twelfth Dynasty.
