ALBAWABA - Israel's opposition leader, Yair Lapid, has blasted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, claiming he is exploiting the military for political advantage and vowing to topple his government.
Lapid said, "Benjamin Netanyahu's government has to fall. With Benny Gantz's resignation, I think this is now possible." He said, "We have the resources, and we will collaborate to bring down this government."
He characterized Netanyahu's administration as dysfunctional, full of internal strife, and unable to handle problems in both northern and southern Israel.
Lapid also said that Netanyahu is putting troops in risk during the continuous fighting in Gaza and accused the present government of undermining Israel's security.
Just before to a meeting of the Internal Affairs and Security Committee to deliberate on the draft law pertaining to the conscription of Haredi Jews, these statements were made in a post on the platform X. The second and third readings of this statute are coming up soon to make it official.
The committee meeting today takes place in tandem with demonstrations organized by "Brothers in Arms," a group of ex-soldiers who want universal conscription for Israeli citizens.
Protests taking place in Israel on a daily basis are demanding the resignation of Netanyahu's administration and denouncing its inability to achieve Israeli detainees' release from Gaza by either military force or diplomatic negotiations with Hamas.
