Minor breaches have been reported in Yemen after a five-day humanitarian cease-fire went into effect on Tuesday night.
Eyewitnesses told Anadolu Agency that a tank run by Shiite Houthi militants had opened fire on positions held by army troops loyal to embattled President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi in the central province of Taizz.
The Houthis also shelled a residential neighborhood in Ad Dali province in the south, only one hour into the cease-fire which started 20:00 GMT, the witnesses said.
Clashes between Houthi on one hand and pro-Hadi vigilantes and army troops on the other were reported in Taizz as well as the eastern province of Jawf, the witnesses added.
Fractious Yemen has remained in turmoil since last September, when the Houthis overran capital Sanaa, from which they sought to extend their influence to other parts of the country.
On March 25, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies began an extensive military campaign targeting Houthi positions across Yemen.
Riyadh says its air campaign comes in response to appeals by Hadi for military intervention against the Houthis.
A five-day humanitarian cease-fire was suggested by Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir and US Secretary of State John Kerry during the latter's visit to Saudi Arabia last week.
The truce makes it, however, necessary for the Houthis to abide by a cease-fire in all Yemeni provinces.
