ALBAWABA - After an altercation with law enforcement, the U.S. Secret Service revealed that officers fired on an armed suspect close to the White House early on Sunday morning.

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the agency had previously received a warning from local police about a "suicidal" person coming from Indiana to Washington.

When cops approached the man, who was carrying a gun, he was apprehended on a street near the White House.  Following a gunfight, the suspect was shot by Secret Service officers and taken to a nearby hospital.  His condition has not been disclosed in any further detail.

Police in Washington, D.C., are in charge of the ongoing investigation into the event, according to authorities.

Former President Donald Trump was spending the weekend at his Florida home and was not in the White House when the shooting occurred.
