Police in Washington state detained two Israelis last week after traces of TNT and RDX explosives were reportedly found in a truck they were traveling in.

The two were arrested last Tuesday after being stopped for speeding near the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, according to a report appearing on Fox News website.

Police, using bomb-sniffing dogs, found trace amounts of the explosives on the gear shift and steering wheel. Traces of the materials were also discovered on one of the vehicle's occupants.

High-tech equipment was used subsequently to confirm the presence of TNT and RDX plastic explosive.

The Israelis told the police, during questioning that they were residing illegally in the United States and were later charged with illegal residence.

The FBI, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and local police are all investigating the matter, the report added.

Government officials told Fox News the roadside stop was so close to the naval air station that military personnel also participated in the initial arrest and naval intelligence has been involved in the subsequent investigation. (Albawaba.com)
