US Embassy reopens in Saudi Arabia following ”terror threats”

US officials decided on Wednesday to reopen their embassy in Riyadh as well as two Saudi-based US consulates which were closed since Monday due to terror threats.

The sudden two-day closure was in response to "a threat against US government buildings in the kingdom”, according to one embassy spokesman.

The US officially announced that its embassy in Riyadh as well as consulates in Jeddah and Dhahran would resume all normal operations beginning on Wednesday, according to the AFP.

Warnings against similar threats have been voiced recently by other Western bodies in Saudi Arabia, which in 2003 experience a series of suspected Al Qaeda attacks resulting in the death of 91 foreign nationals in Saudi Arabia.

The decision followed what sources described as "further assessment of available threat information". Saudi sources stated that they had no concrete sources regarding possible future attacks.
