US Army: 15 soldiers killed in Iraq since Friday

Three U.S. Marines were killed in fighting in western Iraq, the military said Monday in a statement. The three, members of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, were killed "as a result of enemy action" on Sunday in Anbar province, which stretches from west of Baghdad to the Jordanian and Syrian borders.  

 

The statement did not give further details.  

 

Earlier on Sunday, the U.S. Army confirmed the deaths of other 12 American troops killed Friday and Saturday.  

 

Four of them, from the 1st Armored Division, were killed Friday in two separate attacks in Baghdad, the military said in a statement.  

 

In the region of Tikrit on Friday, three 1st Infantry Division soldiers were killed and two injured in an ambush in the town of Baiji, some 200 kilometers northwest of the capital. Another soldier, from Task Force Danger, died when an RPG hit his armored vehicle near Buhritz, in the same region.  

 

A Marine was killed Saturday in Anbar.  

 

A 1st Armored Division soldier was killed in an attack on his convoy late Saturday in downtown Baghdad. A soldier injured by a roadside bomb in Baghdad on Saturday died the next day.  

 

A 1st Infantry Division soldier was killed and another wounded early Saturday when 15 Iraqis attacked his patrol near Khalis, some 50 kilometers north of Baghdad. (Albawaba.com)
