ALBAWABA- Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was shot and killed outside a Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan early Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred around 6:45 a.m., just hours before the company’s annual investor meeting scheduled nearby.
Authorities confirmed that a 50-year-old man was shot outside the hotel before the shooter fled the scene. Thompson was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
UnitedHealthcare, a leading provider of Medicare Advantage and Medicaid plans, abruptly canceled its investor meeting following the tragedy.
Thompson, who had been with the company since 2004, had served as CEO for over three years.
The hotel, located near landmarks such as the Museum of Modern Art and Rockefeller Center, became the focus of a major police investigation. No further details about the suspect or motive have been released.
