ALBAWABA- Sixteen people were killed in fierce clashes in eastern Syria as pro-government forces successfully repelled an attack by the Deir Ezzor Military Council, allied with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the situation in the region has returned to a state of "cautious calm."

The fighting occurred in the strategically divided Deir Ezzor province, where control is split between Syrian government forces and the SDF, which dominates much of eastern Syria.

The battles reportedly involved ground and aerial bombardments by U.S. forces targeting villages and positions near the city of Deir Ezzor. Among the casualties were two civilians, 11 pro-government fighters, and three members of the SDF.

The clashes are part of a broader conflict over control of resource-rich and strategically vital areas in Syria.

This comes as tensions remain high in northern Syria, where Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and allied factions have recently seized parts of Aleppo from government forces, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing war.

The latest violence underscores the fragile stability in eastern Syria and the high stakes for all parties vying for control of key territories.
