UN calls Gaza truce an 'important step'

ALBAWABA - The United Nations has hailed and welcomed the truce agreement reached by Israel and Hamas.

In a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter), the UN said: "The Secretary-General of the UN António Guterres welcomes the agreement reached by Israel and Hamas, with the mediation of Qatar, supported by Egypt and the US."

It maintained: "This is an important step in the right direction; much more needs to be done. UN will mobilize all its capacities to support the implementation of the agreement."

Meanwhile, Turkey has praised the agreement reached by Israel, and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, calling it a "positive development to prevent more bloodshed." Furthermore, It expects 'full compliance' with the Israel-Hamas deal, which includes the release of some hostages, and detainees and increased humanitarian aid to Gaza, says the Foreign Ministryز

On the other hand, Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen says the first group of hostages in Gaza are expected to be released Thursday. 50 Israeli hostages are being released by Hamas, meanwhile, Israel is releasing 150 Palestinians.

China as well was one of the many countries that welcomed the newly announced 'humanitarian pause' and prisoner swap deal. 

Nevertheless, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas also expressed happiness after the announcement of a humanitarian pause deal in Gaza.
