Police officials in Malaysian have arrested two suspected members of a cell of Jemaah Islamiyah, the Islamic militant extremist network suspected of a series of plots and attacks in Southeast Asia, a newspaper reported Sunday.

According to security officials, Jemaah Islamiyah has links to Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda terror network.

The two men, both Malaysian religious teachers, were arrested early Saturday in Sandakan, a town in Malaysia's Sabah state on Borneo island, according to the New Sunday Times. Their names and details of their alleged activities have not yet been released.

A federal police spokesman said he could not immediately confirm the report. (Albawaba.com)
