Twenty-two UAE soldiers were killed while taking part in fighting in Yemen, according to the official news agency WAM on Friday.

The UAE martyrs were taking part in a Saudi-led military campaign against Yemen's dominant Houthi group, WAM said on Friday.

Saudi Arabia and a coalition of other states have been fighting since March to restore Yemen's exiled government and to repel the Iran-allied Shi'ite Al Houthis, who took control of the capital Sanaa in September.

The General Command of the UAE Armed Forces extended condolences and sympathy to the families of the martyrs liquid Allah Almighty to rest in peace.

At least five other Emirati soldiers have been killed in Yemen since the offensive began.
