ALBAWABA - Asaad al-Shaibani, the Foreign Minister of the new Syrian administration, is leading a delegation in the Qatari capital Doha, the Syrian official news agency (SANA) reported.
Asaad al-Shaibani is expected to hold talks with senior Qatari officials, including Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. After the Doha visit, Syria's new foreign minister will be also visiting the UAE and then Jordan.
In addition to al-Shibani, the Syrian delegation also includes the newly appointed Defence Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra and head of intelligence Anas Khattab.
On Wednesday, Syria's FM visited Saudi Arabia marking his first official visit outside trip to the country, and held talks with Saudi officials regarding the political transition in Syria following the ousting of former Syrian regime led by ex-President Bashar Assad.
In November 2024, Syria's opposition groups led by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham announced a new operation against the Assad regime and rebels were able to capture main cities in a short time.
Starting with Aleppo, then Hama and Homs, Syrian opposition rebels were able to capture the capital Damascus and announce the ousting earlier regime and Bashar Assad, former president of Syria, escaped the country to Russia.
Following the collapse of the old regime, the new Syrian administration led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, commonly known as Abu Mohammad al-Julani, promised new reforms and the establishment of a new government. However, for this time, al-Sharaa has formed an interim government to facilitate the transfer of power.
