Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad received in the capital of Damascus Tuesday Iraqi Vice President, Taha Yasin Ramadan.
Ramadan briefed the Syrian leader on the “full Iraqi cooperation with the international inspectors” and stressed the continuation of this cooperation with a “constructive spirit”, the official Syrian Arab News Agency reported.
Additionally, Ramadan clarified that the international inspectors’ report presented to the Security Council does not provide a “complete image of the positive side of the Iraqi authority(‘s) cooperation with (the) inspectors”.
For his part, President Al-Assad expressed satisfaction over Iraq’s cooperation with the arms inspectors, stressing the care of Syria and the International community on giving inspectors enough time to achieve their mission, SANA added.
He emphasized the significance of a peaceful solution to the Iraqi crisis and of realizing this purpose through the central role of the International Security Council, the news agency added.
Moreover, President Assad asserted the necessity of all sides’ commitment to a peaceful solution, the rejection of war on Iraq and strengthening confidence between Iraq and the international inspectors.
He called upon the Security Council to shoulder the responsibility of guarding international security and peace as well as rejecting threats, which contradict the United Nations charter and principles. (Albawaba.com)
