Syrian Foreign Minister in Turkey for talks

Turkish President, Ahmet Nacdat Sezar on Monday received Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk Al-Shara, who conveyed a message from President Bashar Al-Assad to the Turkish President. 

 

During the meeting, talks focused on the current situation in the region, cooperation between Syria and Turkey, as well as means of finding a peaceful solution, which would “avoid Iraq and the region ...war”, according to the official Syrian Arab News Agency

 

President Sezar renewed an invitation to President Bashar Al-Assad to visit Turkey. 

 

Earlier Monday, Al-Shara and his accompanying delegation were received by the Turkish Justice and Development Party Head, Rajab Tayeb Erdogan, SANA added. 

 

Erdogan expressed his country’s interest in developing cooperation relations with Syria and the “necessity of exerting joint efforts for finding a peaceful solution to the Iraqi issue”, the news agency said. 

 

Al-Shara was also received that day by Turkish Prime Minister, Abdullah Gul in the presence of Deputy Foreign Minister, Walid Al-Moualem, Foreign Ministry’s Foreign Media Director, Dr. Buthaina Shaban, and the Turkish Foreign Minister, Yasar Yakis. 

 

During the meeting, talks dealt with the latest regional and international developments as well as the tragic conditions of the Palestinian people in the occupied Arab territories. 

 

In addition, talks dealt with the Iraqi issue and the necessity of finding a peaceful solution to avoid the dangers of a possible war on Iraq, SANA said. 

 

The Syrian Minister conveyed to Gul the Syrian government’s interest in developing relations with Turkey in all fields. 

 

Gul, on his part, expressed appreciation over Damascus’ role in the region and its regional importance, stressing Ankara’s willingness to develop relations with Syria and other Arab countries, in the interest of the region’s security and stability. 

 

Upon his arrival in Ankara on Monday, Al Shara and his delegation held talks with the Turkish side, headed by Foreign Minister Yasar Yekis. The two sides discussed the latest regional and international developments, especially developments in the Middle East. (Albawaba.com)
