At least 27 were killed and dozens injured after a Syrian fighter jet crashed near the Turkish border Monday, Reuters reported.
Residents said the fighter jet went down in the commercial district of Ariha, a rebel-held town south of Idlib, after it bombed the center.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said most of the casualties were civilians living in the province.
The town of Ariha, near the coast of Latakia and Bashar al-Assad's hometown, was taken over by rebel militant groups and has since been targeted by the Syrian regime.
Fighting has intensified between government troops and rebel coalition Jaish al-Fateh, Army of Conquest, as the regime tries to regain key territory now mostly controlled by opposition forces.
