ALBAWABA- In a significant development for Syria, the country’s transitional government announced plans to reopen its airspace for civil aviation within hours.

Syria’s Transport Minister stated that efforts are underway to prepare civilian airports for full operation, with Aleppo International Airport already equipped and operational schedules for Damascus and Aleppo airports expected to be revealed in the coming days.

Simultaneously, work is progressing on reopening and streamlining border crossings with neighboring countries, signaling Syria’s intention to restore connectivity and economic activity after years of conflict.

This announcement coincides with reports that Moscow is finalizing an agreement with Syria’s new leadership to retain its military presence at the Hmeimim Air Base and Tartus naval facility.

Together, these moves highlight ongoing efforts to stabilize Syria and define its post-conflict geopolitical landscape, with Russia aiming to solidify its influence in the region while Syria seeks normalization of ties with global actors.
