Syrian President Bashar al-Assad termed the continuous Palestinian violence, "a national duty and not terrorism," in an interview with an Italian newspaper over the weekend.
The Syrian President told Corriere della Sera that Damascus had not presented any new demands for renewing negotiations with Israel, saying the Syrian position was based on the Madrid Conference and other international agreements.
He said that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was not interested in peace.
Assad also said Syria was against a US attack on Iraq, which he described a, "sister country to Syria." (Albawaba.com)
