ALBAWABA - In a significant security operation today (Saturday), the Military Operations Administration of the interim Syrian government, working with the Ministry of Interior, arrested a number of people suspected of being members of "Assad militias" and other suspects in the Sitmarkho region south of Latakia.
Large amounts of guns and ammunition were found during the continuous patrols, the Syrian News Agency (SANA) said.
After locals reported the presence of armed elements connected to the old regime's militias, the operation, which started early this morning, intends to restore calm to the region.
According to SANA, the reconciliation center in Abu al-Duhur, Idlib countryside, is still processing former regime personnel who want to resolve their status in order to escape legal consequences.
In the meanwhile, Syrian television reported that the Military Operations Administration had sent further soldiers to the Homs countryside in an attempt to destroy any remaining elements of the overthrown government.
The government began a massive security operation earlier this week on Thursday in a number of rural Damascus suburbs, including Qudsaya, Al-Hameh, Jabal Al-Ward, and Hay Al-Woroud. The effort aimed to stop more security breaches in these areas, targeted illicit weaponry, and captured those responsible for disturbance.
As it conducts operations around the nation to handle residual threats and instability, officials have underlined the government's commitment to reestablishing order and guaranteeing civilian safety.
