Syncope, a Canadian-Algerian music band, formed in 1988, continues to attract the public attention. After seven years of activity, the band, which performs texts in French and Arabic, has become popular beyond the large Maghrebian community, residing in Canada in general and in Quebec in particular.
<i>La Nouvelle Republique</i> reports that although the band’s agenda is to promote the Algerian culture, the fact is that apart from traditional Maghrebian music styles such as chaabi, kabyle and chaoui, the band’s repertoire includes also reggae, raga, hip hop and other styles. The band’s new album, already in stores, is titled “”Traveling Entertainers”.
