Four US women bereaved by the September 11 attacks on the United States pleaded in Baghdad Wednesday for peace and issued a call against any war on Iraq.
The four, currently visiting Iraq to oppose the American government's threats to lead military action against Baghdad, arrived on Monday for a six-day visit to the country.
They issued their plea during a press conference at the site of the Amariya shelter, scene of the worst civilian loss of life of the 1991 Gulf War.
Draped in front of the shelter was a banner, which read "Peaceful Tomorrows for All" in English and Arabic.
In a statement, Peaceful Tomorrows said the women were visiting "during this time of great threat to express their hope that war and violence end and that no more families anywhere will suffer the losses they have suffered."
According to the organization's internet site, its mission is to "seek effective nonviolent responses to terrorism.
"By conscientiously exploring peaceful options in our search for justice, we choose to spare additional innocent families the suffering that we have already experienced, as well as to break the endless cycle of violence and retaliation engendered by war." (Albawaba.com)
