Egyptian Ministry of Supplies inspectors have seized 5.1 million cans of tomato paste and marmalade in the stores of a food company, calling them unfit for human consumption, the daily Al Gomhuria reported.
The analyses of samples by ministry of health laboratories confirmed that most of the cans' contents contained fungi and moulds due to their non-compliance with the set health specifications.
Upon being notified of the unhealthy foodstuffs in the stores of a company, the health ministry issued instructions to seize all such goods at all the company's sites in various districts. Large quantities of such products were seized, along with a van for transporting the goods of a state-owned bakery which was found to be smuggling flour to a private baker in the Giza area.
The ministry’s inspectors also uncovered many other violations, including factories without licenses or trademarks, and many firms using adulterated substances and raw materials of unknown origin - Albawaba.com
